To Whom It May Concern:

We are the Elder's Council and the Leadership Council of the Denver/Boulder Chapter of the American Indian Movement (AIM). Our authority to meet and to make decisions comes directly from the active membership of this chapter, and through that authority, we make the following statement:

On November 24, 1993, a group calling itself the National American Indian Movement, Inc., issued a letter claiming to expel Ward Churchill and Glenn Morris from the American Indian Movement and from all chapters of the American Indian Movement. We reject and refute any assertions that this small self-appointed group in Minneapolis, MN has the authority or legitimacy to make such pronouncements. Any decisions regarding membership or leadership in our chapter rest exclusively with the members of this chapter. Churchill and Morris have been long-standing members and leaders of the American Indian Movement of Colorado, and any change in their status, or the status of any person in this chapter, is ours and ours alone.
