26 March 1993 Mr. David L. Michaud Dear Chief Michaud, On behalf of the American Indian Movement (AIM) of Colorado and the American Indian Anti-Defamation Council (AIADC), I am formally requesting any and all information that the Denver Police Department (DPD), especially the Intelligence Bureau, possesses regarding the sharing of information about our two organizations with the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD). This request should be understood also to include information about individuals involved in our organizations, specifically but not exclusively, Russell Means, Ward Churchill and Glenn Morris. We have reason to believe that the DPD has cooperated with the SFPD, specifically with former SFPD Intelligence Officer Gerard or SFPD Chief Anthony Rivera, in providing information about our organizations that might have been subsequently disseminated to domestic and foreign intelligence agencies, possibly in violation of federal law. This request covers the period from 1980 to the present. We further request any and all information regarding any relationships between the DPD and offices (especially the Denver and/or San Francisco offices) of the Anti- Defamation League of Bnai B'rith involving the sharing and/or dissemination of information about Colorado AIM or AIADC. This request also covers the sharing of any information about or referring to Colorado AIM or AIADC by the Denver Police Department with the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or any foreign intelligence agency, specifically but not exclusively the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. This request is rooted in our understanding of alleged collusion between the SFPD and the San Francisco offices of B'nai Brith in the sharing of such information. We believe that we possess a legal right to know if information about our organizations was shared by DPD with either the SFPD and/or Bnai B'rith, to what degree, and the rationale for the sharing of information. Because this matter involves possible violations of federal civil rights and intelligence statutes, and because vindication of the reputations and rights of our organizations (and individuals involved in our organizations) through the federal courts is foreseeable, we request full and complete disclosure of the relationships described above. Let me state clearly that we are not requesting, at this time, the substance of any intelligence information that may have been shared. Rather, we are requesting confirmation or denial of the existence, nature and scope of the relationship between DPD and/or SFPD and/or Bnai Brith that has, may have, or may in the future result in the sharing of information about our organizations, and/or individuals within our organizations. We await your expeditious reply to this request. Glenn T. Morris |
