September 21, 1990

Mr. William Marinella
Federation of Italian Americans
4330 South Sherman St.
Englewood, CO 80110

Dear Mr. Marinella:

It was with significant interest that we read your statement in the Rocky Mountain News yesterday, inviting all American Indian organizations to participate in your Columbus Day Parade on October 6.1990.

The American Indian Movement would like to accept your invitation to participate in the parade and, as I am sure you will agree, it would be most appropriate for the American Indian contingent to lead the parade. As the first peoples of the Americas, and as the people who saved Columbus from certain death, who better can express the true meaning of the arrival of Columbus, and those who followed. As the indigenous people of the Western Hemisphere, we were heartened to read that you welcomed our perspective on Columbus and Columbus Day. We look forward to sharing our perspective as the lead group in the parade.

We look forward to your prompt recognition of our participation.
Sincerely,

Glenn Morris, Co-Director Colorado AIM
